“O Mio Babbino Caro” arrangement

Recently my friend Clare Kavanagh came to me asking if I could put together an arrangement of Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro” for L’Oreal Ireland’s Colour Trophy Awards 50th anniversary show. They had very specific timing requirements so I would need to work to those constraints, extending the aria itself by adding extra sections, a new intro, and ending. Continue reading

“Round Towers” guitar tracking – Darken The Distance

Here’s another short clip of Barry recording with me in Bay Studio. On the day we had set up all the amps we planned on using, and I had set up the three mics I usually use on amps. While I was getting my levels, Barry picked up a Danelectro that was lying around in the Live Room and began riffing on this song – we went down there with no intention of adding any more electric to this tune but I really liked what he was doing. Very simple, not completely following the bass line, and quietly ominous. The guitar itself is Spud’s I think, we definitely owe him a pint! Continue reading

Teaser trailer for Simon Quigley’s film 41° 46′ North

What a lovely way to start the new year.

Over two years ago Simon Quigley came to me to record a new piece he had composed – “Ryan Vs The White Star Line”. It was by far the most complex, ambitious, yet well developed piece he had written (that I had heard anyway!), so it was going to be a big job. After preproduction to get a session together and mock up strings and electronics, and we headed in to Windmill Lane to lay down the piano. Continue reading
